What is Sublingual?

The word sublingual literally means "under the tongue". It refers to a method of administering substances in the mouth so that they can be rapidly absorbed into the blood vessels. The substance is absorbed through the buccal mucosa of the mouth and into the sublingual vein where it has direct access to the blood circulation and is then carried throughout the whole body.

Homocysteine was first described in the 1930s however it's instrumental role in causing heart disease was discovered in the late 1960s. Homocysteine has gone relatively unnoticed and underappreciated by the medical community until recently, and now science is catching up. Homocysteine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in your body as it processes protein. When you ingest the amino acid, methionine, it must be broken down into non-essential amino acids.
Homocysteine Importance
An essential amino acid is a protein you must have to live. A non-essential amino acid may be made from essential proteins. A very important protein, methionine, is used to make many other important proteins. Homocysteine is used in many of the important steps your body uses to break down methionine into non-essential proteins. At the end of the cycle, homocysteine is used to recombine the "leftovers" from this process back into a little methionine. This entire process takes a lot of energy. In addition, heavy drinkers are likely to have low levels of B12 because excessive alcohol consumption hinders the nutrient's absorption. People who don't eat any meat products (vegans) are also at risk of B12 deficiency. A deficiency can cause fatigue, depression, confusion, memory loss, muscle weakness, and numbness and tingling in the hands and feet due to nerve damage
